Brick Pond Park, North Augusta, SC

December, 2014

The Brick Pond Park is a “A Restored Ecosystem, Park and Stormwater Treatment Facility” in North Augusta South Carolina just across the Savannah River from Augusta Georgia. It is open to the public from dawn to dusk, and consists of a number of inter connected ponds with walking trails in between. Fishing is allowed in about half the ponds, the ones on the west side of the park, which have been stocked with bass, sunfish, channel catfish, and 60 grass carp. A permit is required, but for the out of state type the fee is only $3.

Even in December there are large growths of aquatic vegetation and algae. The larger of the ponds has some small islands and seems to have fair amount of water in the 7-8 foot depth range with a nice channel between the island pictured and the shore to the left. There is a floating dock from which fishing is allowed. The water its self is tannin stained but relatively clear.

There are lots of sunfish that should be very easy to catch as they are un-perturbed by a human on the dock and will greedily take all sweet corn, bread, and pellets offered. This fact combined with the easy access the dock affords, and close proximity to parking, should make this a great location to take children fishing at. No casting is required; the sunfish are under the dock.
