Watching the water

When fishing a new water it always pays to have a look around with some polarized glasses and see if there are any fish in the margins. Try to walk quietly when doing this as the fish might be right up on shore and can be easily spooked off by loud vibrations.

When deciding on a spot to fish I look for the following:
  1. Fish showing on the top (really this is the best)
  2. Fish feeding in the margins
  3. Water that is the "right" depth (more on what this is later)
  4. If fishing with children then shoreline sutibility
  5. If I do not see fish then a good range of view from the swim
These are all things I take into consideration. Feel free to post if you have your own tips!
